Students from Buffalo Grove and Stevenson High Schools recently participated in our annual Civics Forum and had the chance to take on the roles of Village elected leaders and staff members in order to experience the importance and role of municipal government.   Students were assigned roles as elected officials or department heads and conducted a meeting as the actual Village Board does, presenting and considering different proposals.  At the end of the meeting, students approved new life-saving apparatus for the Fire Department's Technical Rescue Team. Congratulations and a huge THANK YOU to all our student participants, as well as to our schools and staff for another outstanding program!

These students now know that it is their friends and neighbors who spend those property tax dollars – not Springfield or Washington – and how important it is to have a voice and vote in electing those friends and neighbors..  They now know how important it is to become involved in the communities in which they choose to live in their futures.  They now know that volunteers are the heart of any community.  They observed the inner workings of the Public Works, Police and Fire Departments and what it takes to provide services to our residents.  They obviously learned a lot about municipal government, and I know they enjoyed the experience.
