Solicitation refers to any person or organization, whether for profit or not for profit, to solicit or peddle door to door, in any shopping center, at any intersection, or any other location on any property in the Village.
Residents are encouraged to display a sign reading:
"NO SOLICITORS OR PEDDLERS - Violators subject to prosecution under Village Municipal Code Chapter 5.24."
Solicitors are required to abide by these notices. With or without a sign, residents should not ever be afraid to exercise boundaries with solicitors by refusing to answer their door or by politely stating ‘no thank you’ or ‘not interested’ and shutting and locking their door.
The Village does not directly regulate demeanor of individual solicitors. You have a right to feel secure in your home, and you may ask a solicitor to leave your property at any time. If there is something suspicious, a violation of ordinance, or if the solicitor becomes aggressive/refuses to leave, you should dial 9-1-1 to request a Buffalo Grove Police Officer to your home.
The Village encourages residents having complaints about aggressive or deceptive practices of a business to file a consumer complaint with the Illinois Attorney General’s Office at 800-243-0618 or online.
