The following businesses are subject to health inspections:
Health inspections are conducted:
- Food-related businesses (grocery stores, restaurants, bars etc.)
- State-licensed businesses (massage establishments, nail salons, day care centers)
Health inspections are conducted:
- At the opening of a business - during the business approval and building permit processes. Village staff will identify the need for health inspection during these processes.
- On a continuing basis - once to multiple times per year depending on risk level. These are generally unannounced visits.
Health inspections help to reduce the occurrence of food-borne illness and promote safe food practices. They also help ensure the health and safety of other services and businesses.
During an inspection various factors are looked at such as: proper food handling, hygienic practices, equipment washing/sanitizing, certifications for managers and food handlers. The intent of the inspection is not to document violations but also to educate.
