Citizen Police Academy

The Buffalo Grove Police Department began its Citizen's Police Academy in 1997. Since then, dozens of residents and community members have had an opportunity to get to know BGPD officers as well as their responsibilities.

Our certified police instructors teach the academy students about different aspects of police work, which include: RADAR and LIDAR in speed enforcement, traffic crash investigation, crime scene processing, emergency dispatch center tour, firearms safety, public information sharing, defensive tactics, CPR certification and more!

The Citizen's Police Academy is scheduled in the spring. The program is an ten-week course, which meets one evening each week, for approximately three hours.

This program is reserved for those 21 and over and is held annually in the spring. Please  contact Crime Prevention Officer Amy Cholewa at acholewa@vbg.org with any questions or for more information.
