The Village of Buffalo Grove's Fire Department is involved in educating the public on fire prevention. They have developed a wide variety of fire and life safety programs which they provide throughout the community.

- Several fire and life safety programs, including but not limited to, presentations available to small groups and Home Owners Associations.
- Stroke Prevention and Recognition Presentation
- School Visits which include lessons on escaping from a building on fire and what to do if your clothes catch on fire "Stop, Drop, and Roll!"

Goal of Fire Investigations:
Fire investigations are conducted for every confirmed fire that occurs in the Village of Buffalo Grove in accordance with Illinois State Statutes. The fire investigation team consists of members who are trained and certified through the Office of the State Fire Marshal. It is the goal of the fire investigation team to determine the origin and cause of each fire.

Helping Children Overcome:
The Buffalo Grove Fire Department has had the Juvenile Fire Setter Intervention program in existence for many years and is very successful in helping young children overcome the desire to set fires.
Directing Children to the Program:
Children are directed to this program either through the Buffalo Grove Police Department or through parents of children who have tendencies to set or play with fire.

In order to prevent fires and promote life safety the Fire Prevention Bureau inspects all multi-family, commercial and industrial buildings annually. Violations are reinspected for correction and compliance to codes. Plan reviews of all new buildings, except single family homes, are conducted.

Commercial outdoor fireplaces are allowed in Buffalo Grove, but only logs or charcoal may be used in them.
