If you're interested in learning what's like to be a police officer in Buffalo Grove, the Citizen Police Academy is for you! This nine-week program includes education about DUI and traffic enforcement, firearm safety, crime scene investigations, a K-9 demonstration and much more!
The Citizen Police Academy is hosted at the Buffalo Grove Police Department, 46 Raupp Blvd. Registration is open to community members who are at least 21 years of age and live or work in Buffalo Grove.
The Buffalo Grove Police Department began its Citizen Police Academy in 1997. Since then, hundreds of residents and community members have had an opportunity to get to know BGPD officers as well as their responsibilities.
Our certified police instructors teach the academy students about different aspects of police work, which include: RADAR and LIDAR in speed enforcement, traffic crash investigation, crime scene processing, firearms safety, public information sharing, defensive tactics, CPR certification and more!
The Citizen Police Academy is scheduled in the spring. The program is a nine-week course, which meets one evening each week, for approximately three hours.
If interested, please submit an application or contact Crime Prevention Officer Amy Cholewa at acholewa@vbg.org with any questions.
