Buffalo Grove Police Partners with DEA for Prescription Drug Collection

DEA_TakeBackFall2019_Facebook-post_FinalThe Buffalo Grove Police Department and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) have partnered to host the last official prescription drug collection event of the year on Saturday, October 26, 2019.

Expired, unused, or unneeded prescription drugs can be dropped off at the Buffalo Grove Police Department, 46 Raupp Boulevard in Buffalo Grove, between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. The Police Department additionally has a gray mailbox permanently placed in the station’s lobby, where residents can conveniently and responsibly dispose of prescription drugs, year-round.

On the collection day in April of this year, there were more than 6,000 collection sites throughout the United States. The total weight of the prescription drugs collected was 937,443 lbs., with nearly 36,000 of it disposed of in Illinois. Buffalo Grove Police continue to collect approximately 20 pounds of prescription drugs every week, totaling an average of 1,000 pounds throughout the year.
