Commission Hosts Bowling with Buddies Event for Special Needs Residents

The Rick Kahen Commission for Residents with Disabilities (RKCRD), in partnership with the Rotary Club of Buffalo Grove and Bowlero, is hosting a fun evening for residents with special needs at the upcoming Bowling with Buddies event on Thursday, October 20 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowlero, located at 350 McHenry Road.

The bowling alley will be closed to the public and reserved for the participants, and bowling and dinner are free to the participants. “Buddies”— volunteers with the Rotary Club — will be on hand to assist participants as needed. The event is Halloween-themed, and participants are encouraged to wear costumes.

“This event is truly one of a kind,” said RKCRD Commissioner Mark Weiner. “I’m not sure who gets more out of it. There are many return participants who ask to be paired with a “buddy” they bowled with previously.”

This is the fourth Bowling with Buddies event, with the first organized in 2018 with 34 participants. The event continues to grow, and this year it has reached capacity with 89 participants registered.

“Buffalo Grove is a wonderful place to raise your family, and this event is evidence of that,” said RKCRD Vice Chair Martin Sussman. “We make sure all of our residents have opportunities to get out and have some fun.”
