Village to Host Groundbreaking Ceremony for The Clove Development Project

In partnership with Kensington Development Partners (Kensington) and Urban Street Group (Urban Street), the Village is hosting a groundbreaking ceremony for The Clove—a historic $150 million project that will redevelop the former 22-acre Town Center site into a central mixed-use residential, commercial and entertainment hub in Buffalo Grove. The event will take place this Thursday, September 22 at 6:00 p.m. at the former Town Center property, located at 202 McHenry Road.

“The time has finally come to break ground on The Clove—a moment so many have been waiting for,” said Village President Beverly Sussman. “Please join us as we celebrate this historic milestone and look ahead to the future prosperity this development will bring to our community.”

The event will include remarks from President Sussman, Village Manager Dane Bragg, and representatives from both Kensington and Urban Street. Following a brief groundbreaking photo opportunity with community and project leaders, a reception will be held. Future outlot tenants, Guzman y Gomez, will be on site with free mini burritos and refreshments for attendees to taste. Existing tenant, Giordano’s, will have free pizza samples available inside. Washrooms will also available inside Giordano’s for attendees.

The ceremony will be held in the parking lot directly in front of Giordano’s, with event parking adjacent to the north (see map). Vehicles may only access the event area from the northeast entrance of the property (see map).

A limited amount of seating will be available.

About The Clove

The Clove is the largest redevelopment project in Buffalo Grove history. The project was born out of the concepts presented in the 2018 Lake Cook Corridor Market Study and Plan.

Kensington is redeveloping the 22-acre property (formerly Town Center) into The Clove - a new, modern central entertainment and residential district.

The Clove will feature approximately 78,000 square feet of new retail commercial space across multiple buildings. It will also include an anchor grocer, a 0.85-acre park, an approximately 295-unit luxury apartment building with first-floor retail, and a remodeled 35,000-square-foot shopping center north of Old Checker Road. Featuring walkability, contemporary building design, as well as many new tenants, this new district will be a unique destination for residents and visitors alike.

The project received final approval by the Village Board on June 20, 2022, and Kensington closed on the property in early August.

The construction of this multi-year project is now underway. Site work has begun, and demolition of various structures is expected in the coming days.
