Buffalo Grove Fire Department Extinguishes Residential House Fire

IMG_4584The Buffalo Grove Fire Department responded to a single-family structure fire at 134 Golfview Terrace in Buffalo Grove on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at 12:51 p.m.

Police officers were initially at the scene and reported seeing fire coming from the roof. Moments later, firefighter/paramedics arrived, when fire and heavy smoke were then issuing from the rear roof of the house. The fire then traveled through the attic, into the rear siding, the master bedroom, and to the upstairs bathroom.

The fire department’s alarm response was then elevated at 12:55 p.m. This involved calling in members of the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) to assist with firefighting efforts. The fire caused Golfview Terrace to be closed between Raupp Boulevard and Buffalo Grove Road from just before 1 p.m. until 4:12 p.m. when the fire was finally extinguished. It destroyed a portion of the home’s roof, caused extensive damage to the attic and all three upstairs bedrooms, in addition to a bathroom. Water and smoke damage also occurred on the first floor and in the basement of the home. Damage estimates to the house and its contents are estimated at approximately $250,000. Four adults were in the home at the time of the fire but were able to get out safely and no injuries were reported. The house will be uninhabitable until it is inspected by the Buffalo Grove Building Division. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined and remains under investigation. In addition to Buffalo Grove, personnel from 14 other area fire departments that are part of MABAS assisted in extinguishing the fire.
