Buffalo Grove Traffic Unit
The Buffalo Grove Traffic Enforcement Unit serves as the primary unit responsible for the planning, analysis and coordination of the department's police traffic services.  As a Unit, we strive to reduce the number and severity of motor vehicle crashes in the Village.  The Unit is involved in the Major Crash Assistance Team of Lake County (M.C.A.T), Lake County Safe Kids, and the Buffalo Grove Traffic Management Committee (T.M.A.).  The Traffic Unit is one of the most dynamic and responsible work groups in our department.

Events & Programs
In order to address our communities traffic safety concerns, the Buffalo Grove Traffic Enforcement Unit offers the following traffic safety events and programs:
  • Bike rodeos
  • Good biker programs
  • S.T.O.P. (Selective Traffic Offense Program)
  • S.T.E.P. (Selective Traffic Enforcement Program)
  • Hot Spot/Traffic Concern program
  • Traffic safety proclamations
  • Seat belt safety programs
  • Participation in national traffic safety programs
  • Child safety seat inspections
  • School-based traffic safety programs (drivers education)
  • Utilization of School Crossing Guards at the local schools
  • Involvement in overweight truck enforcement

Additionally, the Traffic Unit will analyze traffic crash data to identify problem areas and solutions by working closely with Traffic Engineering. The Unit will answer and respond to citizen complaints related to traffic. To accomplish these objectives, members of the Traffic Unit will utilize the Police Motorcycle, the Sport Utility Vehicle and Squad Cars, as well as, the S.M.A.R.T. trailer and RADAR and LIDAR units.
