The Buffalo Grove Police Department provides ample opportunities for the officer who enjoys the challenges of public service.

After completing mandatory state academy training, new officers are assigned to the Patrol Division with a Field Training Officer. In addition to working as a patrol officer there are several special assignment opportunities within the department. These assignments include:

Criminal investigator Youth officer School resource officer Firearms instructor Traffic specialist Motorcycle unit

Defensive tactics trainer Hostage negotiator Canine handler Bicycle patrol officer High school police counselor Evidence technician
