BUFFALO GROVE POLICE HOST SUCCESSFUL DRUG TAKE BACK EVENT

New Patch No Background - NEW

The Buffalo Grove Police Department, in conjunction with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), collected more than 169 pounds of prescription medications from area residents on April 28, 2018 at their Drug Take Back event.

This year the Buffalo Grove Police Department partnered with Mariano’s Pharmacy to provide a second collection site for residents. All medications collected were turned over to the DEA for proper destruction.

Buffalo Grove Police would like to remind residents that prescription drugs that end up in the wrong hands can be deadly. Drugs which are prescribed to a certain person should only be taken by that person, and in accordance with the directions given. When prescriptions are taken incorrectly, the person ingesting the substance runs the risk of overdose, possible addiction, and other serious health issues.

According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, prescription drugs are the third most abused substance for teenagers, followed by marijuana and alcohol. The Buffalo Grove Police Department has free, lockable containers for medications used in the home, available at the police station. A drug collection box is also available for drug disposal in the police station’s lobby year-round.
