Three suspects are in custody, but charges have not yet been filed in the armed robbery that occurred the evening of Wednesday, September 13, 2017, at Locksmith Resource in Buffalo Grove.
The company, located in the 1500 block of N. Barclay Road, specializes in keyless entry remotes.
At approximately 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, it was reported that three individuals who were armed, arrived in a U-Haul van and entered the unlocked business. The three suspects restrained an employee of the business and fled with multiple containers of key fobs. Responding officers located the U-Haul and followed it until it crashed at Milwaukee Avenue and Half Day Road in Lincolnshire. The suspects inside the truck then fled on foot but were ultimately detained and taken into custody. Requested assistance provided from area police departments included police officers, canines, and a helicopter.
Police recovered two handguns from the scene of the crash, one of which was a BB gun. The key fobs, which were not programmed and unusable, were recovered from inside the U-Haul.
The investigation continues, though there are no additional suspects. No injuries were reported from either Locksmith Resource or at the crash site, and there is no threat to the public. The Major Crash Assistance Team is currently investigating the crash.
