This year the Buffalo Grove Police Department/Village of Buffalo Grove competed in the "Champion Category" in the Illinois Traffic Safety Challenge. This means that we competed among the best in the State of Illinois.
The results are as follows:
Championship Category First Place - Buffalo Grove
Speed Awareness Program First Place - Buffalo Grove
Teen Driving Program First Place - Buffalo Grove
To receive three awards in the same year is quite an accomplishment. To be judged in the "Championship Category" and to be recognized as the Best in the State is outstanding! The award took into consideration the following categories:

b. Guidelines for Seat Belt Use and Enforcement
c. Guidelines for Speed Enforcement
d. Guidelines for DUI Enforcement
2) Training of Officers
a. Occupant Protection Training
b. Impaired Enforcement Training
c. Speed Driving Training
3) Incentives and Recognition
a. Saved by the Belt Recognition Programs
b. Officer Recognition Programs
c. Public Recognition Programs
4) Public Information and Education
a. Public Education Programs
5) Enforcement Activity
a. Target Enforcement Programs
b. Enforcement Comparisons
c. Seat Belt Enforcement Program
d. Impaired Driving Enforcement Program
e. Speed Enforcement Program
f. Specialized Enforcement
g. Enforcement Technology
6) Effectiveness of Efforts
The men and women of the Buffalo Grove Police Department understand the importance of traffic safety and have once again been recognized by the Illinois Department of Transportation and the Illinois Traffic Safety Challenge for keeping our roadways safe through an outstanding comprehensive traffic safety program.
Police Chief Steve Balinski is certainly proud of their efforts based upon their commitment and dedication to an important community value, roadway safety. The Buffalo Grove Police Department has embraced this concept and the results speak for themselves.
