The Buffalo Grove Park District invites you to spend an evening in support of National Night Out. This event is designed to heighten awareness of crime and drug prevention, and to generate support and participation in local anti-crime efforts – as well as strengthen neighborhood spirit and community relations. It will be held on Tuesday, August 1, 2017 from 5:00 p.m.– 8:00 p.m. at Willow Stream Park, 651 Old Checker Road, Buffalo Grove. Admission is free and among the many offerings are: a Business Expo, picnic in the park, inflatable attractions, face painting, visits by the Buffalo Grove Fire and Police Departments, free hot dogs, chips, drinks and other giveaways (while supplies last), and live music with The Lisa Rene Band from 6:00 p.m.– 8:00 p.m.

The Village's largest event of the year, Buffalo Grove Days, takes place over Labor Day weekend.  This large community event began in 1961 – and its tradition has stood the test of time for 56 years and counting!  Attendees can enjoy carnival rides, a food tent featuring local Buffalo Grove restaurants, a beer tent operated by the Buffalo Grove Lincolnshire Chamber of Commerce, entertainment for all ages, a craft fair, the Fun and Food for Residents with Disabilities Day event, Buffalo Grove Rotary Duck Race, the BBQ Challenge, Buddy Baseball and a business fair highlighting local businesses. New to the event this year will be a classic car, truck, and motorcycle show on Monday from 11:00 a.m.– 4:00 p.m. featuring cars made prior to 1988. The beer tent will also be open on Monday afternoon to coincide with this new event.

The Buffalo Grove Days Community Blood Drive will take place on Saturday September 2, 2017 from 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the Alcott Center, 530 Bernard Drive in Buffalo Grove. To prepare for blood donations, individuals are asked to eat well, stay hydrated and bring an ID. To schedule an appointment, please call Life Source at 847-543-3768. Appointments are preferred, but walk- ins are always welcome.

In addition to all of the activities around Buffalo Grove Days, our Farmers’ Market is open every Sunday between 8:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. through October 8, 2017 (though the market will not be held on Sunday, September 3 during Buffalo Grove Days) in the parking lot near to the Spray and Play at Mike Rylko Community Park, 951 McHenry Road, Buffalo Grove. Rain or shine, the farmers of our market are ready and available each week to answer questions and provide ideas on how to prepare various fruits and vegetables, as well as feature other wares and services.

The Buffalo Grove Fire Department will host its annual Open House for children and adults from local communities to enjoy. This event is held as a kick-off to National Fire Prevention Week, which runs from October 8–14, 2017. The Open House is held at the Fire Department Headquarters Station, 109 E. Deerfield Parkway in Buffalo Grove.

There will demonstrations of:

  • vehicle extrication and a side-by-side sprinkler burn unit;
  • hands-on fire extinguisher training for adults and the junior firefighter challenge, which includes a fire pole;
  • Fire Department equipment displays, puppet shows, and an appearance by the Flight for Life helicopter;
  • free hot dogs and chips.
  • It is a great event for the family!

On October 23, 2017 the Village of Buffalo Grove will host its annual Civics Form for students of Buffalo Grove and Stevenson High Schools.  The format will be same as last year with the students teaming up with Department Heads and Elected Officials to present a proposal for the creation of a new village program or piece of equipment.  The students begin the day with a brief orientation and a physical tour of our Village campus in order to get an in-depth look at municipal government (including fire trucks and jail cells).  They then will work with their counterparts to prepare their proposal for the mock village board meeting.  During the Civics Forum Board Meeting, each student serving as a Department Head will make a presentation to the students serving as the Village Board outlining the request for their department.  The student Board then discuss each proposal and will ultimately vote to enact one of them.  During last year’s Civics Forum, the selected purchase was a Press Tool for the Public Works Department, which is a new piece of equipment that streamlines plumbing and pipe repairs and eliminates the hazards associated with open flames in confined spaces.  This is an annual event is not possible without the tireless efforts of Village Clerk Janet Sirabian.

The Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band will host their 16th Annual Fall Concert– “No Strings Attached” on Sunday, October 29, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. at Buffalo Grove High School. The Band will be performing wind band pieces (many originally for orchestra, but of course without strings) jazz to classical, from Bach to Mahler, to songs from jazz great Dave Brubeck!  If you love any of these music styles, you will most certainly be entertained!

The Buffalo Grove Police Department will again be teaming up with Toys for Tots. Police will be collecting new, unwrapped toys in the police department lobby from November 24–December 20, 2017.  In 2016, the Department collected enough toys to fill three of the marine’s trucks when they came to pick-up these generous donations. With your help, we can help even more children this year! Toys for Tots was created to help less fortunate children throughout the United States experience the joys of the holiday season and to play an active role in the development of one of our nation’s most valuable resources – our children – and to unite all members of local communities in a common cause during the annual toy collection and distribution campaign.

So, as you can see, the Village of Buffalo Grove has so much to offer this fall, to not only our residents, but also community members in our neighboring suburbs. We invite you to come out and experience our Village, and to see what makes it such a special place to be. Buffalo Grove really is a great place to live, work, play and raise a family.
