Traffic Enforcement Programs

Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP)
A STEP program is used to target a specific area that is experiencing a high amount of traffic violations. When the police department is made aware of a location experiencing repeated violations, the Traffic Unit will conduct an analysis of the area and utilize Education, Enforcement and Engineering to correct driver behavior and reduce those violations.
Selective Traffic Offense Program (STOP)
The Buffalo Grove Police Department participates in nationwide traffic safety campaigns such as “Click It or Ticket” and “You Drink, You Drive, You Lose” as well as several others. These programs are not limited to any specific location within the village or during certain times of the day or night. Basically we enforce impaired driving and seat belt usage laws 24 hours of the day, 7 days a week. During a nationwide campaign, we will be especially vigilante in our enforcement. Traffic safety is one of our highest priorities!
