17th Annual Spring Concert: Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band’s Seventeenth Annual Spring Concert – “Lennie and Ella at 100 – Together Again for the Very First Time”. Sunday, April 22 at 7 PM at the Stevenson High School Performing Arts Center, Lincolnshire, IL.
This year is the 100th anniversary of the births of 2 of the greatest and most iconic musical artists of the 20th Century – Leonard Bernstein (conductor, composer of both Broadway and Classical masterpieces, educator, and activist) and Ella Fitzgerald, the first lady of song who embodied and in fact inspired most of the music we collectively call today “The Great American Songbook”.
The Symphonic Band will focus on some of Leonard Bernstein’s most famous works from Broadway – music from Candide, On the Town, Wonderful Town, Fancy Free, and of course, West Side Story will be featured.
The Jazz Band will perform seven selections, opening with a Count Basie instrumental “Shiny Stockings” as he did in many of his concerts. We are delighted to have our regular vocalist, Leah Novak, with us to perform 6 songs that embody Ella’s great standards. There will also be a performance of Leonard Bernstein’s Sonata for Clarinet and Piano, performed by Music Director Howard Green, at 6:40 PM in the lobby before the concert.
Admission is $10 in advance for adults and $8 at all times for Seniors and Students. Admission for adults at the door is $12. Advance Tickets can be obtained online at tickets.bgsb.org, at the Buffalo Grove Village Hall (50 Raupp Blvd, Buffalo Grove), or from any Band Member. Hope to see you there!
